When was it Founded?
Asociacion de Protectoras en Espaa was founded in Barcelona, Spain. in December 2010 but did not become operational until May 2nd 2011 when it was finally approved by the City of Barcelona and by the Spanish Government, permitting it to operate as a nonprofit organization in accordance with the rules and regulation set forth by the government.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ORGANIZATION
Asociacion de Protectoras en Espaa is not an animal shelter. Its mission is to unite, help, guide and lunch the project of all the animal shelter in Spain. It helps shelter members find resources both material and manpower to lunch their project. Through the associations close collaboration with the media, it advertises what each shelter is doing in the community. It is the first organization in Spain created in uniting all animal shelter under one umbrella to have a greater voice in pushing for its objective.
What does Asociacion de Protectoras en Espaa do?
1- It supports community dog projects, educate children in schools, provide professional volunteers to promote dog education and community project and seek the help of the media to advertise the event so that the community can participate in the program.
2- It provides shelters with professional dog trainer free of service to assist them with their special needs; organize stand to collect blankets, foods and medicines for the dogs to be delivered to shelters most in need of these items; and organize fundraising with funds going to the ones in need of help.
3- It organizes free seminars such as dog training, grooming and proper dog hygiene. All the volunteers are trained professional who have devoted their time to help shelters regarding doubt they have in taking care of the animals.
4. It organizes concert event through the help of celebrities by bringing dog awareness to the community and encouraging shelter around Spain to participate and put stand to present their project. During this event many of these animal shelters will have the opportunity to talk to the people and the media so that they could promote their causes and help generate funds to push for their program.
4- It provides space through the use of the associations website in helping members advertise their projects.
5- The association directs dog shelter to other professional organization who wishes to help in lunching their project.
6- It promote spay and neuter campaign by bringing awareness to the public; problems of puppy mills and dog abandonment.
7- It brings together children from all walks of life to participate in a fun event, painting faces of children and telling them stories of dogs rescues with great endings..
8- It looks for sponsor, professional dog trainers and volunteers who are willing to collaborate with the association and members.
Who are the Founding Members?
Pilar Garrido: President of the Association. Bachelor Degree in Travel and Tourism concentration in business management with more than ten years working in the business industries. Expert in dog grooming/trainer and web design.
Belen Garrido: Vice-President.
Alexius Bermudez: Degree in Accounting. Taught in business industries in Barcelona for
10 years. Operation Specialist US Navy 1992-2002

Current Project the Organization is Supporting
(1) Por Un mar de animales: www.xunmardeanimales.org
- It teaches children through a curriculum base learning on dog abandonment, maltreatment, caring and adoption. In the learning activity the children have the opportunity to visit a shelter and explain to them what the shelter is doing, the work of the veterinary, trainer and the people who maintain and care for the dogs. Curriculum base learning was initiated in Barcelona with the goal of expanding the program throughout Spain. The Asociacion de Protectoras en Espaa is helping them look for sponsors, TV and newspaper advertisement, getting other school district to get into the program and provide for volunteers.
* The Asociacion de Protectoras en Espaa felt that such program is important because it trains the new generation to love dogs - big or small and to have this children participate at a younger age so that one day they can provide solution to the problems of dogs in Spain.

The project is designed to rescue dogs in the Kennel that are about to be sacrifice. The saved animals are then rehabilitated by volunteer dog trainer for the purpose of converting them as a therapy dog to help orphan children.
* Having a therapy dogs help the children learn to interact with animals, work together as a team and to live in a well balance environment.

UPCOMING MAJOR EVENT IN SPAIN
24 SEPTEMBER 2011
Zaragoza, Spain
This event has been organized by Zarpa, Galgoleku (both non-profit shelters) and by the Asociacion de Protectoras en Espaa. It is the first major non-profit dog event ever held in Spain. The event is supported by the Zaragoza City Council and will be joined by most of the dog shelters around the country. It will be televised and transmitted nationwide. It is a fundraising event that would benefit all the shelter in Spain. It is free to everyone.
Many of the shelter during this event will have the opportunity to put their stand and present their project to the public. There will be a concert held during the event and 21 celebrities have already made their pledge to be at the concert to promote its success. They will be giving prices to people and signing books, photos, CDs, t-shirt to highlight this occasion. Celebrities that cannot are sending in their videos to show their support. Many of the hotel and restaurant have also participated by giving special prices to people coming all over Spain. Many of the well known dog trainer will provide free seminar and advice to the public. The Spanish Dog Agility Championship will also be held in this major celebration. Also 5 of the most Spanish famouse trainner are coming to give a seminars during the event, they are Antonio Lence, Borja Caponnni, Alberto Ayala, Hugo Torres and the not profit organization Once (they train dogs for blind people).
The purpose of this is to finally bring awareness to the problem of dogs in Spain and to inform people what the shelter is doing to promote adoption and finally open the eyes of people on animal maltreatment.
There will also be city walk for people and dogs to promote dog adoption.
